”Many of the backdrops are produced by the team of artists at Scenic Art Studios, who work out of a 15,000-square-foot space in the 1830s Regal Bag brick warehouse on the shores of the Hudson River in Newburgh, N.Y. During the winter, the artists watch bald eagles float by on ice floes. The workshop is a sanctuary for formerly starving artists.” - Eben Shapiro and Julia Lull

Richard has been a lead/charge artist painting backdrops with Scenic Art Studios for over 2 decades. His inquisitive nature and the urge to problem solve make his drops sparkle with a life of their own. Richard passes on his knowledge to younger scenics as a Forum teacher at The Studio and Forum of Scenic Art. When not at SAS, Richard devotes his time to creating custom wedding gowns and painting oil portraits as well as designing and painting for the Center for Preforming Arts in Rhinebeck.
An eclipse takes place when one body mass such as the moon or planet moves into the shadow of another body. The eclipse of the sun is something I will always remember here at Scenic Art Studios. We all shared a moment together in awe of what we had witnessed. Each SAS member full of excitement with every glance towards the sky. Once the eclipse passed the painting continued. #epic #eclipse
