Joseph Forbes attended the The Sexual-Abuse and Harassment event at The Public Theater on Thursday December, 7th 2017.
"The event was organized in the wake of the sexual-abuse and harassment scandals assailing so many industries and as rumors swept New York’s theater community that an exposé or exposés on Broadway abusers and harassers was about to be published."

Forbes first discovered his love for theatre through an extra credit assignment for his college English class: volunteer ushering for the school production of Look Homeward Angel. Immediately hooked, he began studying scenic design at the University of North Carolina. “[My teacher] would put a backdrop down on the stage floor and we would all gather around between classes and sit there just awestruck while this man painted,” he says. “I think that’s where I got the love of backdrops from.”
But it would be a few years before Forbes realized his lov...

Since I can't yet show you pictures of "Frozen, Broadway", I thought I would fill in with what preceded the stage version. Disney, through our good friends at Feld Entertainment, started adding "Frozen, On Ice" to their repetroir as early as 2015. We have done pieces for touring ice shows in the USA, Ireland, Istanbul and beyond. Below is the drop we have painted, in many incarnations, of the castle exterior.

This performance is based on his book "Born to Run". Bruce claims that performing on broadway helps capture his story. Just him, the stage, and his instruments. Truly, In his element at the Walter Kerr Theatre

Joseph Forbes: A scenic artist must be a jack-of-all-trades. He or she must be a little bit sculptor, a little bit architect, a little bit art historian, and a lot of pure painter. It helps if you are also a little bit of a mad scientist, able to create and invent new tools and techniques to solve problems. Scenic artists should have a thorough working knowledge of the history of architectural and decorative styles. You should not only be able to draw a relatively accurate Corinthian capital, but know the difference between a Corinthian, an Ionic...
This time last year, we were finishing up the Show Curtain for "Holiday Inn" This curtain went through many incarnations, until Anna Louizos hit on a brilliant design. It was elegant, but also had that handmade look for which she had been searching. Attached are a few photos of the curtain as a whole and the detailed painted edges that held down the patchwork appliqué fabric.
Blaze was a rescue dog from Bleu's Canine Rescue. We fostered him here at Scenic Art Studios for a couple of weeks until he found his permanent family. We were honored to have him be part of the SAS family if just for a short while...He always put a smile on our faces.

If you have been a scenic or set designer for any amount of time, you surely have heard the name Jane Snow. Jane's passion has and always will be painting scenery. She is a charge artist, lead artist, teacher and to my enjoyment, one who can make others laugh. Her knowledge and dedication won her the Entertainment Design Award ("Eddy") for collaboration in theatre. in 1999. We look forward to many more years of Jane's expertise here at Scenic Art Studios.
